Descrizione | 2007 BILLABONG PRO MUNDAKA ROUND 2 HIGHLIGHTS » WORLD title contender TAJ BURROW (Aus) has kept his 2007 dream alive by winning back into round three of the Billabong Pro Mundaka. After five days on hold waiting for swell, the world's best were back in business today at BAKIO beach, with clean 1.5m waves dishing up some tasty sections for event 8 of the Foster's ASP Men's World Tour event.BURROW was at the peak of his game, using a combination of fast turns and impressive aerials to easily beat Tahitian Wildcard MANOA DROLLET (Droll-Lay). His two-wave combination of 16.50 out of 20.00 was too strong for the Tahitian, who languished with a heat total of 2.74. With breakaway ratings leader MICK FANNING (Aus) on track to wrap things up in the Basque Country, BURROW and eight time champion KELLY SLATER (USA) are the only surfers able to derail the on fire Aussie. A loss in round two here would have all but ended BURROW'S dream of a maiden world title. It was a dark day at the office for three times world champion ANDY IRONS (Haw), receiving his second dreaded equal 33rd finish for the year at the hands of local Basque wildcard HODEI COLLAZO (Col-lart-zo). IRONS has struggled for consistency in 2007, and fell on three crucial rides, all but handing his opponent the heat victory. For 23-year-old COLLAZO, the win signified the best of his career and he exited the water swamped by a huge local crowd. It will be tough going in round three for the young gun, up against a rampaging FANNING. |
